Exactly five years ago today I went into labor for the first time.
I was 31 weeks pregnant with The Goose when I began having contractions. My midwife told me to go to the hospital, and I was surprised to find out that I was in labor.
Like most kids I know, The Goose is always falling down. The knees on his pants are constantly ripping, and I find myself looking for creative ways to patch them.
One day, while I was searching the Internet for new ideas, I saw a cute monster face, and I immediately thought “I can’t sew. I shouldn’t even try this.” But I couldn’t help myself, and before I knew it, I was buying fabric, needles and thread. And the pants monster was born.
Friday is the start to our weekend, and I always plan something fun for us to do. Over the summer, we went to bounce houses, sprayscapes, beaches, plays, movies, miniature golf and more. All in the name of Fun Day Friday.
Fun Day Friday started as an accident. The Goose was taking swim classes every Friday morning, and we always ended up heading over to McDonald’s for lunch immediately after. I was tired of always doing the same thing, so one week I decided to change things up. I took The Goose to Subway for lunch and then to the park for a playdate with a few of his friends from school.
As a mom, I have an internal computer that keeps track of everything. Soccer schedules, swimming lessons, doctor appointments, birthday parties. I know who, what, when, where and why. But here’s the thing…
What if I’m not around? What if, while walking down the street minding my own business, I am struck by a bus. Who is going to take The Goose to soccer? Wait, what day is it? Does he have soccer today? Or was that yesterday?
