Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, and if you’re like me, and dislike giving out the plain Valentine’s cards from the store, but also don’t have a crafty bone in your body, this cute and simple homemade Valentine is right up your alley.
Last year, we made this homemade Valentine and had The Goose holding a sucker. But this year candy is not allowed at The Goose’s school, so we have revamped the idea, and he’ll be holding a pencil instead.
To make the Valentine, start by taking a picture of your child holding their hand out, as if they are handing you something (like a sucker!). Next, print the picture. To print the picture you have two options. (1) Print out a photo on your home computer or (2) Get prints made at any store. We chose to print the photos on our home computer, but if I had to do it again, I would definitely have them printed at the pharmacy. Because printing the photos uses a LOT of ink, and they were a bit flimsy (even though I printed them on photo paper).
Next, you need to make the backing for the Valentine. I used a piece of pink foam (because that’s what we had on hand), but you could also use scrapbook paper, card stock, or even construction paper. To make the Valentine, simply glue the picture to the background, and use a knife or a box cutter to make a small incision above and below your child’s hand. Make sure that the incision is just big enough to accommodate the stick for the sucker (or the pencil, if that’s what you’re using).
Insert the treat into the holes and voila! you’re done. A super cute and easy homemade Valentine!
